When I was a student at Drama camp in my last year before I aged out our teachers had us do journals during the course of the camp. They had never required it of us before but it gave us an interesting way of interacting with them. It allowed them to help us each with our individual achilles heels.
Below are excerpts of the advice I was given to help me grow and learn. I read them now and think I still have so much to learn. I also realize how far off track I've gotten from what they expected of me.
I'm trying to find my way back to that girl so that I can continue along the path they had pointed me in. Damn 12 year detour.
"Risk it. Being criticized and getting over it gets less emotional the more you allow it to happen."
"Don't be in awe of anyone. Every situation is different even for a seasoned professional."
"If it shapes you and you see it as a learning experience, then it will have been a good thing! If you let it bother you, it will eventually swallow a piece of you and inhibit your willingness to take risks in the future."
"It's interesting to see how you rally the group around your scenes during the lunch time. It's good to see such a focused group. Since you have this leadership role now, you could even look for inspiration for new plays. Maybe we're witnessing the birth of a new Shakespeare."
